Trout
Spotted Sea Trout are another fun species to target in our area. Trout are not regarded as the hardest fighting fish but they do provide steady action when most other species refuse to cooperate. Trout are usually caught on the deeper edges of grassy flats using live bait, lures, and flies. Most Trout range in size from 12 to 20 inches with a trophy 25 plus inch fish always a possibility. Trout can be targeted year round with the best action and bigger fish occurring in the cooler months. The largest Trout caught on my boat was a 30 inch, 8 pound "Gator". Although anglers in our region are allowed to keep one trophy Trout as part of their limit, I encourage the release of these big females, keeping the slot fish for the table.
